Alcoves For Storage and Decoration
Built in alcove shelving and units on either side of a fireplace are popular for organizing living areas. The addition of the shelving and units can be both decorative and practical.
In this project, the room did not have a fireplace to begin with. The original was completely level and bare.
The chimney breast with integrated gas fire was constructed using a timber frame and plaster to finish. Next, the shelving and cabinets were made and fitted into the alcoves. The final touch was to add lights.
The Result
The result was that a plain wall was transformed into an attractive, functional space and ready to fill with books, photos, ornaments or any other special items.
